A new low! and it's from CNN. Even if it's newsworthy to some, how can it possibly be considered worthy of a Breaking News Alert?
It's ironic that in a "race" to get subscribers to the Twitter version of their Breaking News Alerts, CNN has made a mockery of that very service.
Sad day for those interested in real news, and for those who felt that CNN had been finding a way to walk that line between light news and real news.
"CNN Breaking News" now means a whole lot less today than it did yesterday. |

There have been numerous moments over the past few years where I am reminded that news as we knew it for the past twenty odd years is gone. This is one of them. I can appreciate change. Hell, twenty years ago I thought CNN was a crazy idea - but I came to love it. I do not see myself ever appreciating celebrity driven news.

It is pathetic on CNN's part. I have cancelled my subscription to their breaking news service and would like them to pay me back for the text charge on my mobile. I will stick to BBC .

re airhogs comment - if "its all about marketing" - then I guess its a success for CNN if they want to attract the kind of viewers and readers who feel that what Ashton has to say is important.

It's all about marketing. CNN has gotten more publicity from this story than anything else they have done recently. Drive traffic , drive dollars. Simple equation - and that's what news is now.

Glad to see you finally holding CNN up to the same scrutiny that you and your followers seem to give to Fox News. I'm not sure Fox has ever gone this far with its use of news alerts. I don't always agree with what Fox sends out in their alerts either, but if they sent out an alert like this even I would complain.
