About Us

ABOUT US:

We are news fans who feel that there are others out there like us who would welcome the opportunity to track what major news sources feel qualify as "Breaking News". In addition to providing one source for these stories we also offer the opportunity to comment and debate these stories - and the coverage of these stories - all at one location. Who got the story first? Which source had the story right?

When Paris Hilton's release from jail was considered "breaking news" by many of these "credible" news sources an idea was born.

We are completely independent of any news related company. We have no relationship with any of the news sources showcased on BreakingNewsOrNot.

We do our best to highlight and capture the selected news sources treatment of "breaking news" alerts, but as we are not associated with any of them we cannot guarantee that the times associated with the stories are the exact time that the source first reported the story.

FAQ:

Q: How do you decide what stories to highlight on your home page?

A: All stories that these sources qualify worthy of "breaking news" alerts are showcased on our home page with the most recent story listed at the top. In some cases all the sources cover the same story - and in some cases only one source deems a story worth the "breaking news" designation. Visitors to our site then have the opportunity to vote and /or comment as to whether or not they feel the story warranted "breaking news" alert status.

Q: Why is my favorite news source not on the list of news sources?

A: We have chosen these sources as a starting point as they are all credible sources that do cover national and international breaking news stories with alerts. We welcome feedback from our visitors on other news sources you would like to see included. The debate about whether these are all credible news sources and whether each story is truly "breaking news" is encouraged in our comments section and in the "blog" section.

Q: Is there are way for me to read only one type of breaking news - like political or entertainment?

A: All stories coming from these selected sources are displayed beginning at the top of the home page. These stories could include what some would qualify as "entertainment", "sports" or "political" stories. The debate about whether or not a CNN or New York Times should treat a celebrity DUI as a breaking news story is why we have the voting and comments feature. Due to popular demand we have also created a separate "ENTERTAINMENT BREAKING NEWS" page accessible from our home page that highlights stories from various entertainment sources.

Q: I clicked on the link to the news source but the story was not there?

A: The nature of breaking news and breaking news alerts is such that the home page of the news source that you have linked through to may be at one of a number of different stages in their coverage of the story. If the story has just broken then the news source in question may only have the headline/alert up - with the promise of more detail coming soon. It may also have some of the details from the alert or potentially even have new details. Also what may have appeared to have been a potential major story may have been false and therefore quickly off the sources home page. Lastly if you click through after a certain period of time and depending on the story the news may simply be old and off the home page. Most of these sources have great search features on their sites and you should have no trouble finding the story , even at a later date.
